Battery Solar Storage Facility — Florida Power & Light
Gorman self-performed major civil and structural scope for a new Battery Solar Storage facility for Florida Power & Light (FPL). The project required the installation of 3,600 linear feet of 60-foot PZ-26 steel sheet pile walls to facilitate excavation and construction of a reinforced concrete water containment cell approximately one acre in size. Over 500,000 cubic yards of material were excavated prior to the placement of the compacted aggregate base.
The containment cell floor — comprising 3,030 cubic yards of concrete — was placed in a single continuous pour to accelerate the project schedule. EFCO forming systems were used to construct 15-foot-tall, 1.5-foot-thick containment walls. Approximately 900,000 pounds of reinforcing steel was placed across the floor and wall system. The project also included the construction of over 1,100 linear feet of concrete drainage channels.
